Monday was International Women’s Day, and today is our last day checking in with our Women of Influence.
We spoke with Jane Scheel, the Executive Director at Haldimand-Norfolk Women’s Services.
She said it was a difficult year for the organization, trying to provide supports while being COVID safe, and also a very difficult year for women facing abuse in the community.
She likened it to an almost impossible choice, as women had to choose to stay with the abuser they knew or the virus that terrified them.
Rita Kalmbach has had a quiet time since last we chatted.
Following safety rules, Rita has not travelled as much as she wanted to but does plan on touring around Ontario at some point this year.
The first Mayor of Norfolk County also spoke about the current political landscape, noting another female running for a council position, and how proud she was to see women having such a strong role at the council table.
We did reach out to Marlene Miranda but she was unavailable for an interview this week.
If we hear back from her in the coming days, we will update this story.
You can hear all four updates here, here, here, and here.
Until then, you can catch up on the 18 women we’ve highlighted in the community to date here and here.
