A young Delhi boy is hoping to give back after the support he received last year when he was diagnosed with acute lymphoma leukemia.
Three-and-a-half-year-old Marshall Eli Cox was diagnosed last July and had the community rally behind him with a fundraiser at the Delhi Dominos that raised $13,000 and helped while his parents had to take time off work. Now, Marshall and his family are organizing a toy drive to give to McMaster Children’s Hospital.
Marshall stopped by the studio with his mom, Sarah, and older brother, Aiden.
Sarah updated us on how Marshall is doing.
The idea for the toy drive began last Halloween.
She said when Marshall was first diagnosed at the hospital they brought in a cart of toys for him to pick from, and that memory stuck with them.
When asked what toys at the hospital are his favourite to play with, Marshall said he likes the Paw Patrol toys.
Sarah wanted to extend her gratitude to the community for the help they provided last year.
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, so they thought the middle of the month would be the perfect time for the toy drive.
They are asking for new, unopened, unwrapped toys to be donated to help fill treasure chests and bigger toys for kids to play with on the ward. They will also accept money if you are unable to get to a store, and they will use it to buy more toys before they deliver them all at Marshall’s next appointment at McMaster Children’s Hospital in October.
On September 16 the superhero bikers will be driving around the community with a pick-up truck to collect the toys. The route is Port Dover Kinsmen Park from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., Wellington Park in Simcoe from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Waterford Yins Park from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., Delhi Quance Park from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., and Port Rowan Lions Park from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
The rain date is September 17.
