A retired school teacher will now be the voice of residents in Ward 1. 61-year old Tom Masschaele was crowned victorious during Monday’s election that saw him edge out John Henderson by just 24 votes. Masschaele tells myFM his first order of business will be to get to know his new fellow councilors.
During his election campaign, Masschaele voice the need for high-speed internet access in rural communities, while also addressing infrastructure projects that includes bridges and roads in Ward 1.
Ward 1 had one of the worst voter turnouts in the county with only 35 percent of the population casting a ballot.
