A heads up for those driving behind the wheel this long weekend. The OPP say they will show no mercy to drivers committing what they call the Big Four leading contributing factors in road fatalities. As of Monday, 156 people have been killed the OPP-patrolled roads.
50 were killed due to speeding, 37 deaths have been linked to distracted driving, 35 were killed by impaired driving, while 34 people have died due to a lack of seatbelt use.
So far this year, the OPP has laid over 175-thousand charges against aggressive, inattentive, alcohol and drug-impaired drivers.
