Sharps disposal kiosks are being put to good use across Haldimand and Norfolk.
Earlier this year, nine of these kiosks were set up to allow people in our community to dispose of needles and syringes 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Before this, those who used needles were limited to where they could drop them off and often time had to do so during certain businesses hours.
Over four months, 7600 needles and syringes were disposed of in these kiosks.
This is part of the Haldimand Norfolk Health Unit’s harm reduction strategy that also offers a needle exchange program to ensure individuals can access clean and sterile needles, syringes and other supplies to reduce the harm associated with injection drug use.
The HNHU is also asking the public to report any needles found in the community, and this information helps them determine the locations of the kiosks.
