It’s getting colder, and the Norfolk County Fire Department is getting ready for a spike in calls regarding home heating. It happens every year when the furnace, fireplace, or electric heaters are put on. Fire Prevention Officer Michael Atkins says a lot of focus is given to natural gas heating, but they have responded to their fair share of calls regarding electric heaters.
If you have a heater that involves natural gas, Atkins highly recommends that you have someone inspect it annually to make sure it is good to go for the season. Likewise, don’t repair gas heaters – get a qualified individual to do so.
