The Clonmel Castle in Port Dover was the talk of Town Hall.
For 2 hours and 20 minutes, our elected officials heard from the public and those representing the castle regarding two potential changes.
The most significant change was allowing 36 stacked townhouses on the property with parking. The other change would let the owners to rent out their nine rooms and turn the castle into a “hotel” by definition rather than their present bed and breakfast.
One by one, residents nearby took to the microphone complaining about current parking and noise issues at the Castle that they feel would only get worse.
Staff did recommend that the issue of townhouses be deferred as there was more information needed but they were suggesting approval for the hotel designation.
There was some negotiation that night between residents and the owner about not allowing any outdoor music after 6 p.m. to ease some concerns.
Ultimately both issues will fall into the new council’s hands with both being pushed to a later date.
