How will parents speak to their kids about marijuana once it becomes legal?
That was one of the primary motivations behind Wednesday night’s “Impact of the Legalization of Marijuana on Families” information panel that was held at the Waterford Highschool.
Representatives from the school board, mental health professionals, and social workers were there to answer questions parents had.
Lindsay Speirs is a Family Intervention Specialist at St. Leonard’s Community Services and she says one key thing a parent should have is an open mind.
Tammy Burrows works at Woodview Autism and Mental Health Services, and she laid out some of the key concerns of a teen brain on marijuana, and how that could impact their learning abilities.
She says parents need to approach the subject like they’d approach other issues, like the sex talk, and lay out the questions.
Tomorrow we will talk about how this all will play out from the Grand Erie District School Board’s point of view.
