Just in time for the new school year.
Police say penalties for drivers who endanger pedestrians are increasing.
On September 1st, the penalty for failing to yield at pedestrian crosswalks, or school crossings, will increase from a $500 fine and three demerit points, up to $1,000 and four demerit points.
Fines double in Community Safety Zones, which are areas near schools and public areas marked with signs.
And we can tell you that the OPP will be out in force to make sure drivers aren’t endangering pedestrians, and are stopping for school buses.
