The Waterford Old Town Hall was standing room only as candidates debated several vital issues. The three running for Mayor joined Jean Montgomery and Kim Huffman who also shared their campaign. Marijuana complaints were brought up, specifically the smell.
Huffman suggests the issue starts with those who have permits to grow medium to larger scale cannabis crops but don’t have to follow the same rules as the big indoor marijuana producers.
Montgomery believes that strict rules need to be put in place after speaking with farms impacted by the marijuana smell and how it affects their lives.
Montgomery and Huffman were also asked how they would deal with a council that doesn’t get along. Many in the crowd felt that over the past four years, our elected officials have been fighting for their wards and not necessarily for the betterment of the County.
Montgomery answered by saying that after years of sitting on multiple boards and various discussion groups she has learned how to work together with everyone.
Huffman said a changing of the guard at Town Hall is in the works with at least three new councilors taking a seat and she has been laying down the groundwork to fix this very issue.
The municipal election goes on October 22nd.
