Some clarification from our medical officer of health when it comes to cottage owners in our region.
On Friday, an official order was released telling cottage owners that they could not go to their secondary residence to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 in the region.
There was some confusion on the matter and Dr. Shanker Nesathurai says a lot of that stems from the choice to try and contact cottage owners directly.
Instead of a broad message out to the community, the decision was made to contact those most directly impacted by the change and send out letters, which the doctor said went out much slower than planned.
Another issue Dr. Nesathurai clarified was for residents of Haldimand and Norfolk who may own a cottage within the dual counties.
The restriction is only for cottage owners outside of Haldimand and Norfolk Counties.
The doctor explains that, for example, if you own a cottage in Turkey Point but live in Dunnville, you are allowed to go visit.
Dr. Nesathurai explains that the measures are in place to reduce the risk of the virus being brought to the Haldimand and Norfolk from other jurisdictions.
