A service that was available at all local high schools has now switched to a virtual model.
The S.T.A.R. program, which stands for STop Abuse in Relationships, saw counsellors meet with students who have witnessed abuse, experienced abuse or assault, may be having relationship issues, or need a safe person to talk to about any issues related to these matters.
Counsellor Haley Wilson says they are looking at new ways to reach students because just because school is closed it doesn’t mean their concerns have gone away.
Another issue with a phone call is, if there is an issue at home, it might not be easy to speak about it.
She says they also provide presentations in the classroom and she is working on figuring out a way to provide presentations online in the near future as well.
If you need assistance, you can go to their Facebook page or call Haldimand-Norfolk Women’s Services and ask to be direct to a STAR Counsellor.
