Greg and Rose Yerex are back home in Port Dover.
We had an opportunity to talk to the Rose over the phone about their vacation in Japan that turned into a nightmare after being stuck on a cruise ship in quarantine after an outbreak of the coronavirus.
They then had to spend more time at a hospital in Japan after they tested positive for the virus.
While several media outlets and politicians have been critical of the decision to leave people on the boat for two weeks, Rose had great things to say about the staff on the ship.
She says many people are missing the point that it was not the cruise ship’s company that made the call to keep everyone on board.
Talking about her time in Japan, she does try to look at the positive.
While disappointed that they would not be returning home after they both tested positive for COVID-19, Rose talks about what it was like to finally leave the ship and end up at university hospital.
While waiting in Japan, Rose said one thing that kept their spirits up was the amazing community support and the outpouring of love from Norfolk County.
One thing people were surprised about was how quickly the Port Dover couple returned home.
It was on Tuesday of last week that Rose announced the Greg received the all-clear to go home and by Thursday they were back in Port Dover.
There is a reason for that, as Rose was playing it safe not wanting to make any big announcements on social media out of travel concerns.
Rose also talked to us about what it was like to finally step foot inside her home after over 2 months away.
Though back home, you won’t be seeing Rose or Greg walking around for a little while.
They are waiting until March 15th to enter back into society just to be extra safe for the community that they love.
And finally, reflecting back on the whole journey, Rose said she couldn’t help but feel overall grateful.
The reason being that at the end of the day, they are back home and healthy and that can’t be said about everyone affected in Japan or around the world right now.
