The Haldimand Norfolk region was part of a recent study done by the Independent Electricity System Operator as the group examined the energy consumption of the area’s growing greenhouse sector.
According to the IESO’s study, the average flower greenhouse in the County’s is 2 times larger than the average in the rest of the province but greenhouse usage is growing across most of Southern Ontario.
The IESO is focused on ensuring Ontarians have a reliable electricity system and works to operate the grid in real-time while forecasting what things could look like in the future.
Andrew Dow is the supervisor of media relations with the IESO, he explains why they’re interested in the growth of greenhouses.
Dow explains that the IESO is offering up tips for greenhouse owners to reduce their energy usage, and costs at SaveOnEnergy.ca.
