A section of the Lynn Valley Trail in Simcoe will be temporarily closed beginning Thursday, October 29, as Norfolk County undertakes repairs to address erosion along the popular trail.
The closure will affect the section between Norfolk Street South and the Rotary Bridge, near the Brook Conservation Area trails.
According to the County, erosion along the bank beside the trail has caused significant washout, raising concerns about public safety and the long-term stability of the trail.
Crews will be working to stabilize the affected bank and prevent further erosion.
The project will involve removing select trees and vegetation to allow construction equipment to access the area, repairing the damaged bank and restoring disturbed sections once the work is complete.
Reseeding will also take place, with additional native shrubs expected to be planted in 2027 to provide longer-term stabilization.
Norfolk County says precautions will be taken to minimize damage to the existing paved trail, and any damage caused by construction will be assessed and addressed during restoration.
The affected section will be completely closed to trail users during construction, with temporary fencing and signage installed to keep people away from the work area.
The southern portion of Memorial Ball Park will also be used as a construction staging area and will be temporarily unavailable to the public, although the ball diamond itself will not be part of the staging area.
Those looking to access unaffected portions of the Lynn Valley Trail toward Port Dover are encouraged to use the Victoria Street trail entrance.
The closure is expected to last approximately two to three weeks, with November 19 listed as the anticipated completion date.
However, the County notes that weather conditions and contractor availability could affect the timeline.
Additional updates will be provided as the construction schedule is confirmed and work progresses.
