Residents across Haldimand, Norfolk, Brantford and Brant County are being encouraged to wear purple this Thursday to show children, youth and families that support is available when they need it.
Dress Purple Day takes place October 29 as part of a province-wide awareness campaign. Child and Family Services of Grand Erie is joining organizations across Ontario in encouraging communities to take part.
Executive Director Gabe Minor says the day is about recognizing the role everyone can play in supporting local families.
Minor says one of the biggest messages behind Dress Purple Day is that families do not have to wait until they are facing a crisis before asking for help.
Child and Family Services of Grand Erie can speak with families about the challenges they are facing and, when appropriate, connect them with other local organizations that may be better suited to provide support.
Minor says wearing purple may seem like a small gesture, but it can send an important message to a child or young person who is struggling.
Seeing teachers, neighbours and other trusted adults wearing purple can help young people recognize that people in their community care about their safety and well-being.
Minor also highlighted the many community organizations that work alongside Child and Family Services of Grand Erie, saying those partnerships are an important part of supporting families throughout the region.
Dress Purple Day is Thursday, October 29, with residents, schools and community organizations encouraged to wear purple and help make support visible to local children and youth.
