Norfolk County says the Annaleise Carr Aquatic Centre in Simcoe is scheduled to reopen next week following ongoing construction and repair work at the Simcoe Recreation Centre.
The facility is expected to welcome swimmers back on Monday, October 19, at 12:15 p.m., provided final repairs and preparations are completed as planned.
The County is also advising residents that swimming lessons and aquatic programs originally scheduled to begin October 14 will be postponed by one week. Those programs are now expected to begin during the week of October 19.
To welcome the community back, recreation staff will host special welcome-back events on October 20 and 21. Two free swims are also planned to give residents an opportunity to return to the pool.
A free family swim is scheduled for Saturday, October 24, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., followed by a free public swim on Sunday, October 25, from 2:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.
The reopening is part of a broader update on construction and repair work at the Simcoe Recreation Centre, which is also home to the Simcoe Seniors’ Centre and a multi-purpose floor.
Construction work on the multi-purpose floor is expected to begin once the Norfolk County Fair and Horse Show concludes. The space is anticipated to reopen on November 1, subject to the completion of structural repairs.
Meanwhile, the Simcoe Seniors’ Centre is scheduled to resume most of its regular operations on Thursday, October 15, following the fair. However, programs and activities that require the use of the multi-purpose floor will remain unavailable until repairs are complete and the space reopens.
Norfolk County thanked residents for their patience while the construction and repair work continues, saying it looks forward to welcoming the community back to these facilities.
The reopening dates remain subject to the completion of the required work and facility preparations.
