Ontario has completed its latest round of highway speed limit increases, bringing more sections of provincial highways up to 110 kilometres per hour as part of a broader effort to expand the higher limit across the province.
The latest changes took effect Wednesday, with speed limits increasing from 100 to 110 kilometres per hour on nine additional sections of provincial highways.
The changes mark the completion of a summer-long initiative announced in June by Transportation Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria, with the provincial government aiming to bring just under 90 per cent of Ontario’s highway network to a speed limit of 110 kilometres per hour.
Throughout the summer, the province gradually increased speed limits on several major routes, including highways 400, 401, 403, 407 and 417.
The latest round of changes brings the government’s planned expansion to a close for this initiative, following previous increases introduced on 10 sections of highway in 2024 and six sections in 2022.
The province says the changes are part of its ongoing efforts to increase speed limits across the provincial highway network, with the latest increases completing the summer rollout.
