United Way Golden Horseshoe has launched its first region-wide fundraising campaign, setting an $18 million goal to support programs and services across the region.
The campaign includes Brant, Haldimand-Norfolk, Halton, Hamilton and Niagara, meaning money raised will also help strengthen community supports serving Norfolk County residents.
The goal was announced at the annual UPS Plane Pull at Hamilton International Airport. More than 90 teams pulled a 200,000-pound aircraft 50 feet, raising more than $275,000 on event day.
United Way Golden Horseshoe President and CEO Brad Park said the larger regional campaign comes as local needs continue to grow.
“We know $18 million is ambitious, but the need around us is growing, and our ambition has to grow with it.”
Last year, United Way-supported programs helped more than 440,000 people across the Golden Horseshoe. The organization currently supports 235 programs addressing issues including food insecurity, housing, mental health, financial stability and supports for children and youth.
Campaign Chair Marc Hamel said everyone can play a role.
“You don’t have to solve every challenge facing our communities. None of us can. But all of us can do something,” Hamel added.
United Way says money raised locally stays local, supporting programs in the communities where donations are made.
