Norfolk County is reminding rural property owners that a little septic system maintenance can go a long way.
The County is recognizing Septic Awareness Week from September 14 to 18, an annual campaign aimed at helping homeowners better understand and care for their systems.
The Ontario Onsite Wastewater Association is offering free educational webinars and online resources throughout the week. A Septic System Access Safety webinar takes place tomorrow, (Sept. 16) at 7 p.m.
Fritz Enzlin, Norfolk County’s Director of Building and Bylaw Services and Chief Building Official, says understanding how a system works is important.
“Septic systems are an essential part of many Norfolk County rural properties,” said Enzlin. “Regular maintenance and safe operating practices help prevent system failures, protect groundwater, and ensure a healthy environment.”
Homeowners can also find maintenance tips, videos and guides through the association’s online Homeowner Resources page.
Enzlin says a well-maintained septic system is one of the most important investments a rural property owner can make.
