A dangerous round of severe weather is threatening parts of southwestern Ontario this afternoon, with damaging winds, large hail and even a tornado possible.
Environment Canada says a dangerous thunderstorm was located over Dorchester at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, moving southeast at about 45 km/h.
The storm could bring damaging wind gusts along with hail ranging from quarter to golf ball size. Areas in its path include Oxford and Norfolk Counties.
More severe thunderstorms could develop through the afternoon and evening as a cold front moves across the region. Wind gusts above 110 km/h, torrential rain and local rainfall amounts up to 50 millimetres are possible.
Environment Canada warns the storms could cause power outages and significant damage to trees, buildings and property.
Residents should take immediate cover if threatening weather approaches, preferably in a basement or interior room.
