Norfolk County officials are in Ottawa this week, joining municipal leaders from across Ontario for the 2026 Association of Municipalities of Ontario Conference.
The annual AMO conference runs from August 16th to 19th and gives municipalities a chance to meet with provincial officials, share ideas and advocate for local priorities.
Representing Norfolk County are Mayor Amy Martin, Deputy Mayor Kim Huffman, Councillor Alan Duthie and Chief Administrative Officer Al Meneses.
Norfolk officials say their priorities include reliable municipal funding, infrastructure investment, housing supports and responsible growth as the county plans for the future.
Premier Doug Ford addressed municipal leaders Monday, outlining several provincial initiatives that could impact communities across Ontario.
Ford highlighted Ontario’s $236-billion infrastructure plan and an $8.8-billion partnership with the federal government aimed at supporting housing-enabling infrastructure.
He also announced that the next round of applications for Ontario’s Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund is now open.
The province increased that fund to $500 million in its 2026 budget, supporting projects such as arenas, community centres, pools and playing fields.
The AMO conference continues through Wednesday.
