Norfolk County residents will continue to have access to public swimming programs into September as construction at the Annaleise Carr Aquatic Centre and Simcoe Recreation Centre continues.
The county announced that the Delhi Kinsmen Pool will remain open throughout the month of September while work continues on the Simcoe facility.
Officials say construction has been progressing over the summer, but as the project moved forward, additional work was identified that is now being completed as part of the overall renovation.
“Construction of the Annaleise Carr Aquatic Centre and Simcoe Recreation Centre is ongoing,” Norfolk County said in an update. “As work has progressed, additional work has been identified and is currently being completed as part of the project.”
When the closure was first announced in May, the county anticipated reopening the Annaleise Carr Aquatic Centre in early September following a series of planned maintenance and infrastructure upgrades.
The work includes repairs to the pool’s water inlets, replacement of the pool deck surface, regrouting of tile throughout the pool tank, and significant upgrades to the building’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.
At the time, Norfolk County noted that construction schedules could change if unforeseen issues were discovered once work began.
To ensure residents continue to have access to aquatic programming while construction is completed, the heated outdoor pool in Delhi will remain open beyond its normal summer season.
The county says a full schedule of both drop-in and registered aquatic programs will be offered throughout September at the Delhi Kinsmen Pool.
The extended season is intended to minimize disruptions for swimmers, families and recreation program participants while work continues at the Simcoe recreation complex.
Norfolk County has not yet announced a revised reopening date for the Annaleise Carr Aquatic Centre but says updates will continue to be provided as construction progresses.
