The historic building at 5 Norfolk Street North in downtown Simcoe has officially been sold, marking the start of a new chapter for one of the community’s best-known commercial properties.
According to a social media post by Team VandenBussche RE/MAX Erie Shores Realty, the sale has been completed after the building spent generations serving local shoppers. The property was home to Budd’s Retail Store from the 1930s until the business closed in 2016.
The Budds family first opened its clothing business in Kitchener on King West in 1925 before expanding to locations in Guelph in 1931 and Simcoe in 1937. The Simcoe store became a familiar part of the downtown core before closing along with the company’s other locations.
The real estate team said every downtown continues to evolve and expressed excitement about seeing what the new owners have planned for the iconic corner, while wishing them success as they bring new opportunities to the heart of Simcoe.
