Norfolk OPP officers, assisted by the West Region Emergency Response Team, Tactics and Rescue Unit, Canine Unit and Crisis Negotiators, were called to a Main Street residence between Alma Street and Clifford Street at about 3:45 p.m. on July 11 after receiving a report of a barricaded individual.
Police say the investigation found an altercation had taken place inside the home, where one person allegedly assaulted another, causing minor injuries. Investigators allege the same individual then produced a firearm and pointed it at a second person.
Officers safely took the individual into custody shortly before 9 p.m.
During the investigation, police also uncovered several previous incidents involving the same individuals, including alleged assaults, property damage and the use of a firearm over an extended period.
As a result, a 45-year-old Norfolk County resident has been charged with 24 offences, including six counts of spousal assault, four counts of uttering threats, three counts of assault with a weapon involving a spouse, three counts of mischief, two counts each of assault by choking, pointing a firearm and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, along with one count each of uttering threats against a spouse and assault with a weapon.
The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe at a later date.
