Port Dover Minor Baseball is celebrating a major boost for the future of the game after receiving a $50,000 donation from the Jays Care Foundation during the Toronto Blue Jays’ Canada Day celebrations.
The donation was announced at Rogers Centre, where six former Canadian Major League Baseball players were recognized for their contributions to the sport. Among those honoured was Port Dover native John Axford.
As part of the celebration, Jays Care Foundation and the Toronto Blue Jays donated $50,000 on behalf of each former player to a youth baseball organization of their choice. Axford selected Port Dover Minor Baseball.
The organization said the funding will be used for much-needed upgrades and improvements at Harry Misner Field. The project is expected to enhance the experience for players, families and the local baseball community.
Port Dover Minor Baseball thanked Axford for giving back to the community where his baseball journey began, calling the donation an investment in local youth, its programs and the future of baseball in Port Dover.
The organization also thanked Jays Care Foundation, the Toronto Blue Jays and TKO Jersey Co. for helping make the Canada Day celebration a memorable one.
