The Grand Erie District School Board has approved a balanced budget for the 2026-27 school year, maintaining a strong focus on student learning, well-being and classroom support.
Trustees approved the budget during the board’s regular meeting on June 22. The plan will now be submitted to Ontario’s Ministry of Education.
The budget includes approximately $435 million in operating spending, an increase of $10 million from the previous year. Direct classroom instruction accounts for 70 per cent of total costs, representing a 2.1 per cent increase.
Board Chair Brian Doyle said the budget reflects a collective effort to keep student needs at the forefront while balancing current priorities with future needs for more than 28,000 students.
Chief Executive Officer JoAnna Roberto said the spending plan supports the board’s refreshed strategic plan and investments aimed at improving consistency across Grand Erie schools.
The budget also includes a $21.7 million capital plan for facility improvements, renovations, upgrades and critical repairs. Grand Erie will continue investing in frontline positions that directly support students, including educational assistants, social workers and custodial staff.
Superintendent of Business and Treasurer Rafal Wyszynski said the balanced budget addresses rising costs while investing in student success without relying on reserve funds.
Ontario school board fiscal years run from September 1 to August 31.
