Norfolk County is reminding residents that yard waste collection is now operating under its summer schedule, with each collection zone receiving curbside pickup one week per month.
The county says residents should check the summer collection calendar to find their designated pickup week. Those who miss their collection week or have extra yard waste can take it to a Norfolk County transfer station at no charge. However, branches larger than one inch in diameter are subject to regular tipping fees.
The summer schedule includes Zone 1 for Simcoe and Long Point, Zone 2 for Port Dover, Langton and Port Rowan, and Zone 3 for Turkey Point, Vittoria, St. Williams, Courtland, Delhi and Waterford. Residents living outside those zones may also bring yard waste to transfer stations free of charge for composting.
Norfolk County reminds residents that all yard waste must be placed in brown paper leaf bags with the tops rolled shut. Plastic bags will not be collected. Bags must not exceed 18 kilograms, or 40 pounds, and should not contain garbage, flower pots, animal waste or burnt leaves.
The county is also reminding residents not to rake leaves or grass clippings onto roads or neighbouring properties, as this can block catch basins, create safety hazards and interfere with street sweeping operations. Residents can find collection schedules through the Recycle Coach app or on the county’s website.
