Simcoe Strong is inviting residents to roll up their sleeves and help spruce up downtown Simcoe as the busy summer season approaches.
The grassroots community group will host its first large summer cleanup of the year on Saturday, June 20, beginning at 10 a.m. Volunteers will meet outside 16-20 Robinson Street before spending two hours picking up litter, pulling weeds and improving public spaces throughout the downtown core and Riverside area.
Organizer Josh Parsons said anyone can join in, regardless of whether they have volunteered with Simcoe Strong before.
He adds they hope to tackle as much as possible in two hours and tidy up downtown before everyone starts passing through for the summer.
Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own work gloves and litter grabbers if they have them, although garbage bags and some gloves will be available through community donations.
The cleanup will focus on Norfolk, Robinson, Colborne and Peel streets, along with the Riverside area. Participants will collect litter, remove weeds and clean up discarded items, while avoiding hazardous materials.
Parsons said the organization remains committed to restoring and advocating for downtown Simcoe, while understanding that lasting change takes time.
Simcoe Strong has been active for just over a year and continues to encourage residents to get involved through community cleanups, public meetings and advocacy efforts aimed at the long-term revitalization of downtown Simcoe.
