A local woman is preparing to mark a deeply personal milestone by returning to the site of a serious motorcycle crash and inviting the paramedics who helped save her life to join her in a memorial and celebration of recovery.
The event will take place today (June 15) at the Queensway Tim Hortons parking lot in Simcoe, from approximately 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., the same location where the incident occurred on June 15, 2018, at 12:05 p.m.
The woman, Bonnie Fintas, was transported by Norfolk County Paramedic Services following a serious collision that resulted in an extensive head injury.
After eight years of recovery, she has since made a full recovery and is organizing the gathering as a way to express gratitude to the paramedics involved in her care.
According to event details, Fintas has requested that the four paramedics who attended the original call join her for the memorial, which will include a moment of reflection and a balloon release.
Officials say the gathering represents a rare and meaningful opportunity for emergency responders to reconnect with a patient and witness the long-term outcome of life-saving care in the field.
The event is being described as both a memorial to the original incident and a celebration of recovery and resilience.
