Norfolk County filmmaker Daryl Granger is back in production on a new documentary that continues his growing body of award-winning work highlighting local stories with international reach.
Granger is the creator behind recent films Netting the Waters, Young Farmer, and The Showmen — productions that have collectively earned 66 international film awards while focusing on life and work in Norfolk County.
He spoke to us about his new project.
Among the featured subjects in Walk a Mile in my Shoes is veteran broadcaster Annette Hamm from CHCH.
Another focal point is Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Bobbi Ann Brady
Granger says the inspiration for his films comes from curiosity and questions he has always wanted answered, rather than a traditional documentary structure.
Instead of extensive pre-planning, he immerses himself in environments, learns alongside his subjects, and captures their experiences as they unfold.
That approach, he says, has helped his work resonate with audiences beyond Norfolk County.
He notes that viewers are often drawn in by local connections but stay for the broader human stories, even when they didn’t expect to be interested in the subject matter.
The upcoming film will also include additional Norfolk-based stories and is expected to be released as a single feature later this year, with a tentative target of October, pending production timelines.
