A 17-year-old Caledonia resident has died following a serious two-vehicle collision in Haldimand County.
Haldimand OPP officers, along with emergency services, were called to Highway 6 near 5th Line at approximately 5:05 p.m. on Saturday, June 6.
Police say the collision involved two passenger vehicles. The 17-year-old was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the second vehicle suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to a trauma centre for treatment. Police have indicated the injuries are considered non-life-threatening.
Following the collision, Highway 6 was closed between 4th Line and 5th Line for several hours while investigators examined the scene.
Members of the OPP Technical Collision Investigation Unit and Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team assisted with the investigation.
Police have not released any additional details regarding the circumstances leading up to the crash.
The investigation remains ongoing. Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have dashcam footage from the area around the time of the incident to contact the Haldimand OPP. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers.
The collision marks another tragic reminder of the importance of road safety as police work to determine what led to the fatal crash.
