Sunny skies and warm temperatures created ideal conditions as hundreds of students headed to Norfolk County beaches Friday for the annual Beach Day tradition.
The unofficial event, which takes place on the first Friday of June each year, saw large groups gathering at popular destinations including Long Point, Turkey Point, and Port Dover.
While Beach Day is not endorsed by local schools or police, it has become a longstanding tradition for many students as the school year begins to wind down.
Ahead of the event, Norfolk County OPP announced plans for increased patrols throughout the day.
Officers maintained a visible presence on local roadways, beaches, and Lake Erie, focusing on public safety and enforcement.
Police said officers were watching for a number of potential issues, including underage drinking, impaired driving and boating, trespassing, property damage, disorderly conduct, and other unlawful activities.
While Beach Day is often viewed as a celebration marking the final weeks of the school year, police have consistently reminded participants that poor decisions can have lasting consequences.
The event concluded without any major publicly reported incidents, though police have not yet released any enforcement statistics related to the day.
