Ontario’s proposed legislation aimed at cracking down on misconduct by municipal politicians has officially passed third reading at Queen’s Park and is now awaiting royal assent.
Bill 9, known as the Municipal Accountability Act, passed by a vote of 110 to one on Tuesday, which reads that if serious violations are found, the matter could then be referred to Ontario’s integrity commissioner before ultimately returning to council for a final vote on possible removal from office.
Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Bobbi Ann Brady took to social media explaining her lone vote against Bill 9.
Her main issue comes with the idea that an elected official can be removed by fellow councillors and not the public who voted them in.
Brady noted other MPP’s had concerns with the Bill but voted for it anyways.
She just could not vote for something she did not agree with.
She noted Bill 9 is flawed, and she feels time will prove it.
