A Stouffville resident is facing charges after Haldimand County OPP seized contraband tobacco during a traffic stop earlier this week.
Police say an officer conducted a traffic stop on Argyle Street South in Haldimand County on Tuesday, May 26, at approximately 6:30 p.m. During the interaction, officers allegedly observed several boxes of suspected illegal cigarettes in plain view inside the vehicle.
An investigation at the scene led officers to determine the driver was in possession of contraband cigarettes in violation of Ontario’s Tobacco Tax Act.
As a result, a 67-year-old Stouffville resident has been charged with possession of unmarked cigarettes for sale and possession of unmarked cigarettes. Police say all of the alleged contraband tobacco products were seized as evidence.
The accused was released from the scene and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Haldimand on August 14, 2026.
Haldimand OPP say they continue to focus on road safety and proactive enforcement efforts across the region.
