West Haldimand General Hospital will undergo a planned power shutdown on Thursday as part of major electrical infrastructure upgrades at the facility.
The shutdown is scheduled to take place from 7:30 a.m. until approximately 4 p.m. Hospital officials say extensive planning has been completed to ensure patient care and safety remain top priorities during the outage.
Key services, including the Emergency Department, inpatient care, and pharmacy services, will continue operating throughout the shutdown. However, LifeLabs, Physiotherapy, and Audiology services will be closed for the day.
The Haldimand Family Health Team Health Care Centre will remain open and unaffected by the outage itself, although ambulatory care services there will temporarily lose internet access during the work.
Temporary lighting will be installed throughout the hospital and one of the facility’s main elevators will remain operational.
Hospital officials say this is the first of six planned shutdowns scheduled between May and August as crews complete critical infrastructure improvements.
Additional shutdowns are currently planned for June 10, June 24, July 9, July 23, and August 5.
Jason Smith, Director of Facilities and Capital Projects at WHGH, says the project has required significant coordination between hospital teams and community partners.
Hospital officials are thanking patients, staff, volunteers, and community members for their patience as the upgrades move forward.
