A local pet store is putting a spotlight on Canadian-made pet food while building a strong sense of community for animal lovers.
Global Pet Foods carries a range of brands, including its own exclusive label, Nature’s Harvest, which is made in Canada using Canadian-sourced ingredients. Owner Cheryl Nelson said the goal is to offer high-quality options that customers won’t find anywhere else.
In addition to Nature’s Harvest, the store features other Canadian brands such as Pulsar, Legacy, Taiga, and FirstMate, giving pet owners a variety of options that support Canadian companies.
Nelson says they prioritize education and customer support, offering samples and a 30-day guarantee. Any returned food that is still safe is donated to local humane societies, helping reduce waste and support animals in need.
For Nelson and Global Pet Foods, community involvement is also a major focus. The store regularly hosts adoption days, invites customers to celebrate their pets’ birthdays with treats and discounts, and partners with local businesses to offer employee savings programs. She says they are also planning future events, including in-store activities and even a pet-themed fashion show.
She adds the goal is to create more than just a retail space, but a welcoming hub where pet owners can connect, share stories, and feel part of a growing local community.
