The Norfolk County Fire Department is alerting residents to reports that an individual may be going door-to-door in Norfolk County while wearing fire department attire.
In a public notice shared with the community, officials said they were made aware of a situation involving someone who may be presenting themselves as a member of the department during unsolicited visits to homes.
The department is emphasizing that it is not currently conducting any door-to-door campaigns, including home inspections or outreach visits. Officials also clarified that the Norfolk County Fire Department does not collect donations or conduct fundraising efforts through door-to-door solicitations.
Residents are being urged to exercise caution and avoid feeling pressured to provide personal information, financial details, or money to anyone claiming to represent the department.
Officials say anyone who encounters suspicious activity or believes they may have been approached by an impersonator should contact the Ontario Provincial Police non-emergency line at 888-310-1122.
The fire department is also asking residents to help spread awareness of the warning to friends, family, and neighbours in an effort to prevent potential scams and keep the community safe.
