Norfolk County OPP say four individuals are facing charges following a series of separate intimate partner violence investigations over the course of a single day.
Police say the first incident was reported on Friday, May 8, at approximately 1:56 p.m., when officers responded to a harassment complaint at a Norfolk County address. Investigators determined that between May 1 and May 8, the victim had received ongoing unwanted electronic communications from another individual. As a result, a 56-year-old Norfolk County resident was charged with harassing communications and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe at a later date.
A second investigation began on Saturday, May 9, at approximately 7:50 a.m., after officers responded to a 9-1-1 call about a dispute in progress at another Norfolk County residence. Police say two individuals had been involved in an interaction on the property, and officers also learned of an earlier incident approximately two weeks prior where one person allegedly threatened the other. A 43-year-old Norfolk County resident was arrested and charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm – spousal. The accused is expected to appear in court in Simcoe at a later date.
Later that same day, at approximately 4:34 p.m., officers responded to another 9-1-1 call reporting an assault at a separate address in the county. According to investigators, two individuals became involved in an interaction inside a residence where one person was assaulted. Police said no injuries were reported.
A 50-year-old Norfolk County resident was arrested and charged with assault – spousal. Officers later learned the accused had allegedly contacted the victim and returned to the residence in violation of release conditions. The individual was taken back into custody and additionally charged with two counts of failure to comply with an undertaking. Police say the accused remains in custody pending a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe.
The fourth incident occurred later that evening at approximately 10:45 p.m., when officers responded to another assault complaint at a different Norfolk County address. Police determined two individuals had been involved in an interaction inside a residence during which one person was allegedly assaulted and threatened. No injuries were reported.
As a result, another 50-year-old Norfolk County resident was arrested and charged with assault – spousal and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm – spousal. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe at a later date.
