The list of candidates for Norfolk County’s upcoming municipal election continues to grow as nomination filings are submitted across several wards and the mayoral race.
Former Norfolk County councillor Noel Haydt has officially entered the race for mayor. Haydt is seeking the top job on council as the municipality prepares for an election that will see a new mayor, following Mayor Amy Martin’s announcement last week that she will not seek re-election.
In Ward 5, Quentin Dixon has filed nomination papers to run for council. The ward is currently represented by councillors Alan Duthie and Doug Brunton, neither of whom has publicly confirmed whether they intend to seek re-election.
Ward 3 is also taking shape, with Hetty Verlinden entering the race in Delhi alongside Chris Gill, who filed his paperwork on the opening day of nominations. The seat is currently held by Councillor Mike Columbus.
Other confirmed candidates include Greg D’Hulster in Ward 1, Linda Vandendriessche in Ward 2, and Chris Van Paassen in Ward 4. At this point, no candidates have filed nomination papers in Ward 6 or Ward 7, and no school board trustee candidates have officially entered the race.
Nomination filings are expected to continue in the lead-up to the municipal election as additional candidates declare their intentions.
