Haldimand OPP say seven drivers are facing court appearances following a series of impaired driving investigations across the county over a four-day span. The charges stem from multiple incidents in Dunnville, Hagersville, and Cayuga between May 4 and May 7.
Police say the first incident happened early May 4 after officers responded to a two-vehicle collision on Cross Street in Dunnville. A 21-year-old Dunnville resident was charged with operation while impaired, dangerous operation, and disobeying a court order.
Later that evening, officers conducted an investigation on Lock Street in Dunnville that led to impaired driving charges against a 47-year-old Dunnville resident. Police say suspected drugs and drug-related paraphernalia were also seized during the investigation.
Additional arrests followed in Hagersville and Dunnville over the next several days after officers investigated suspicious activity, reports of possible impaired drivers, traffic stops, and erratic driving complaints.
Among those charged were a 56-year-old Hagersville resident, a 52-year-old St. Catharines resident, two Dunnville residents aged 29 and 46, and a 71-year-old Caledonia resident.
The accused individuals are facing a variety of charges, including operation while impaired, operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit, dangerous operation, possession offences, and several Highway Traffic Act violations.
All seven accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on various dates in June.
Haldimand OPP continue to remind drivers that impaired driving — whether involving alcohol or drugs — remains one of the leading causes of serious collisions and fatalities on Ontario roadways.
