The field for Norfolk County’s 2026 municipal election continues to grow as two more candidates have officially filed nomination papers.
Greg D’Hulster has registered to run for the Ward 1 council seat currently held by Councillor Tom Masschaele. While Masschaele had not yet officially filed paperwork as of this week, he previously told the radio station in January that he intended to seek re-election.
Ward 2 Councillor Linda Vandendriessche has now officially entered the race as well, confirming she will seek another term on council.
The filings come just days after the nomination period officially opened for Norfolk County’s 2026 municipal election.
Residents interested in running for mayor, council, or school board trustee positions can now submit nomination paperwork through the County Clerk’s office.
Candidates for mayor or council must be Canadian citizens, at least 18 years old, and either reside in Norfolk County or own or rent property within the municipality.
School board trustee candidates must also meet additional eligibility requirements connected to the board they intend to represent.
Nomination fees are set at $200 for mayoral candidates and $100 for council and trustee candidates. The deadline to file nomination papers is August 21 at 2 p.m.
