Intimate partner violence continues to be a concern in Norfolk County after two separate investigations led by the Ontario Provincial Police resulted in charges.
Police say the first incident happened on May 1, just before 10:30 a.m., when officers responded to a report of an assault at a home in Norfolk County. Investigators determined two individuals were involved in an interaction inside the residence, where one person assaulted the other, causing minor injuries. Officers also learned the victim had allegedly been assaulted and threatened by the same individual in a previous incident at another location in the county.
A 36-year-old Norfolk County resident has been charged with four counts of spousal assault and one count of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm. The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe for a bail hearing.
A second incident was reported on May 3, just after 3:00 p.m. Officers responded to another address in Norfolk County, where an investigation found one person had allegedly assaulted and threatened another and caused damage to property. No injuries were reported. Police say the victim had also been previously assaulted by the same individual in incidents in Haldimand County and Stratford.
A 37-year-old Norfolk County resident has been charged with multiple offences, including assault causing bodily harm by choking, assault with a weapon, uttering threats, dangerous operation, and mischief under $5,000. The accused remains in custody and is also scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe.
