Crime Stoppers of Haldimand and Norfolk is launching a new reward initiative aimed at cracking down on fentanyl trafficking across the region.
The organization says fentanyl and its derivatives continue to have a devastating impact on local communities, contributing to overdoses, loss of life, and ongoing harm. The highly toxic drug also puts first responders and police at risk when they come into contact with it.
In response, Crime Stoppers is offering financial incentives to encourage residents to come forward with information.
From May 1 to June 30, a $1,000 reward will be offered for tips that directly lead to the arrest of individuals involved in trafficking fentanyl within Haldimand and Norfolk. Additional rewards ranging from $500 to $1,000 will be available for information that results in significant drug seizures.
A representative for Crime Stoppers of Haldimand and Norfolk explains that fentanyl is not just a big-city issue.
“Fentanyl is not confined to large urban centres—it is present in communities of all sizes, including our own,” the representative notes. “Those who choose to traffic these drugs are putting lives at risk.”
They add the goal is to encourage people to speak up safely.
“This initiative is intended to encourage individuals with information to come forward anonymously and help stop this activity,” they explain.
Crime Stoppers stresses that all tips are anonymous, and callers are never asked to identify themselves.
Residents with information can call 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or submit tips online at helpsolvecrime.com.
Officials say the initiative is designed to support police efforts and reduce the presence of fentanyl in local communities.
