An investigation by the Ontario Provincial Police has led to the recovery of more than $230,000 in stolen property and charges against a Norfolk County resident. Police say the case began on April 16 after a front-end loader was reported stolen in Elgin County and later tracked to a rural property in Houghton.
Officers from multiple OPP units, including the Haldimand/Norfolk Community Street Crime Unit and the West Region Emergency Response Team, executed a search warrant at a property on 2nd Concession Road ENR. During the search, investigators recovered several items, including a Caterpillar front-end loader, a Polaris side-by-side utility vehicle, and a dump trailer.
As a result of the investigation, one individual was taken into custody at the scene. A 66-year-old Norfolk County resident has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and altering or removing a vehicle identification number.
Police say the accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe in early June. Authorities note that the charges have not been proven in court, and the investigation highlights ongoing efforts to address property-related crimes across the region.
