The U14A Norfolk Knights have made history, capturing the OMHA Provincial Championship and finishing as the top team in Ontario at their level.
The team capped off a remarkable season by going undefeated through both the regular season and playoffs, also winning their Southern Counties League title. Their championship run concluded in Whitby, where they faced the best A-level teams from across the province.
Team Manager Ian Malo said the group evolved throughout the season.
Malo says they knew they had something special after the Christmas break, when the team came away with a tie in Strathroy—something they felt was below their standard.
The Knights made history as the first Norfolk Minor Hockey team to win an OMHA Provincial title, with Malo crediting the coaching staff as a key factor.
As the pressure of an undefeated season grew, defenceman Brennan MacLean (#87) stayed confident the team could handle it.
Centre Kail Player (#23) says it’s his first undefeated season, crediting teamwork and strong friendships for the team’s success.
With new strategies introduced at the U14 level, skill development is key. Centre Max Malo (#34) says he’s proud of the progress he made this season.
Winger Matty O’Neail (#11) said the achievement carries lasting pride.
The association, made up of players from Simcoe, Port Dover, Waterford, and Six Nations, was a joy to watch this season. Parents, family, and friends were kept on the edge of their seats at home games in Port Dover, where the team was backed by a strong local fan base all year. Norfolk couldn’t be more proud of the Knights.
