A story rooted in rural life, love, and letting go is set to take the stage in Simcoe later this month.
Simcoe Little Theatre is preparing to present Harvest, a heartfelt and humorous Canadian comedy that reflects both the charm and the challenges of life in farming communities.
The production follows a small‑town Ontario farming couple as they prepare for retirement.
With a plan they believe is simple and foolproof, the pair set out to leave farm life behind for a new chapter — but quickly discover that letting go is easier said than done.
Director Christine Mulholland told us the story alone speaks to Norfolk County, but they went a step further to really connect with the local audience.
The production features veteran local performers Dan Fewings and Melinda Campbell, who take on the roles of Allan and Charlotte.
In a unique theatrical twist, the pair also portray multiple supporting characters throughout the show, shifting seamlessly between roles with minimal costume changes and relying on voice, movement, and timing to bring each character to life — thoroughly impressing Mulholland at every turn.
We had the two lead actors join us in studio as well.
Campbell talked to us about playing multiple roles and how it was both thrilling and challenging.
Fewings said that while they are constantly transforming into different characters, he’s been equally impressed with how Mulholland is using the small stage to create imaginative and engaging sets.
Both actors also spoke about their love for the material — and the added pressure they feel to bring out their very best.
Performances of Harvest will run April 30 and May 1 at 7:30 p.m., May 2 and 3 at 2 p.m., and again May 7 and 8 at 7:30 p.m., with additional matinees on May 9 and 10.
Tickets start at $27, with youth pricing available.
Residents are encouraged to come out and support local theatre while enjoying a production that blends humour, heart, and a distinctly Norfolk County perspective.
