A tragic collision in Norwich Township has claimed the lives of three people and left two others with life-threatening injuries, according to the Ontario Provincial Police.
Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Highway 59 and Quaker Street at approximately 3 p.m. on March 31, where a collision involving a transport truck and a sport utility vehicle had occurred. Officers from Oxford OPP, along with fire and paramedic services, responded to the scene.
Police say three occupants of the SUV suffered critical injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. Two additional occupants were transported to hospital by both land ambulance and Ornge with serious, life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the transport truck was not injured.
Investigators from the Oxford OPP, along with the West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team, remain on scene and continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
The intersection of Highway 59 and Quaker Street remained closed for several hours as investigators processed the scene.
Police are asking residents, businesses, and motorists in the area to review any available dash camera or security footage that may have captured the collision or the vehicles involved prior to the crash.
