Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Bobbi Ann Brady is criticizing the province’s 2026 budget, saying it fails to deliver meaningful solutions for Ontarians facing rising costs.
In her weekly column, Brady says the Ford government’s latest plan offers short-term relief instead of long-term change. “It feels less like a fresh plan and more like a rerun,” she said, pointing to a projected $13.8 billion deficit—up sharply from $7.8 billion last year.
Brady argues one way to reduce the deficit would be to better target electricity subsidies. “Taxpayers are handing over billions each year,” she said, suggesting support should focus only on those who need it most.
She also raised concerns about a lack of new investment in agriculture, calling the sector vital to Ontario’s economy. “Farmers deserve more respect and real support,” Brady said.
On housing, Brady warned expanded homebuyer incentives may worsen affordability. However, she welcomed a reduction in the small business tax rate, calling it a positive step.
Brady says she will continue reviewing the budget in the weeks ahead.
