Hundreds of students across the Grand Erie region remain at risk of suspension as public health officials continue to enforce provincial immunization requirements.
Grand Erie Public Health says as of March 24, a total of 620 students in cohorts born in 2009, 2017, and 2018 have not yet brought their immunization records up to date.
The affected students are located across Brantford, the County of Brant, Haldimand County, and Norfolk County.
The pending suspensions are part of the enforcement process under Ontario’s Immunization of School Pupils Act, which requires students to have up-to-date vaccination records or valid exemptions on file.
Public health officials had previously contacted families of more than 4,300 students last summer, advising them to update records or face possible suspension.
In February, over 2000 students received official warnings of suspension.
While the number of non-compliant students has dropped significantly since those initial notices, hundreds remain at risk as the March 31 deadline approaches.
Students who do not meet the requirements by that date could be temporarily suspended from school until proper documentation is provided.
Grand Erie Public Health plans to release an updated set of numbers on March 31, the day suspensions are scheduled to take effect.
